England, Leicestershire, Western Australia,
Victoria, Hampshire
Born in Southend-on-Sea in 1969, Alan Mullaly
is Australian trained and bred, but of English ancestry. He
played Australian Sheffield Shield cricket briefly, but then
chose to throw in his lot with the country of his parents,
England. He bowls fast left arm, somewhat of a rarity in England,
and the different angle of attack combined with the ability
to swing and seam the ball has made him an effective wicket
taker. His consistent wicket taking for Leicestershire put
him in England contention, but his performances at Test level
to date have been variable, and he has been in and out of the
England side. He is a number 11 bat, but has worked hard to
improve his batting. In the past he has also had problems with
accuracy and consistency in his bowling, but Mulally has overcome
them to become an effective opening bowler.
