Last Test: Australia v Zimbabwe at Harare, Only Test, 1999/00

Wisden Cricketer of the Year 1994

Born in Brisbane in 1964, Ian Healy was a stalwart of the Australian cricket team from 1988 to 1999 and the most successful wicket-keeper in Test history. A proud and aggressive character, Ian Healy rose from fraught beginnings in Pakistan to become one of the world`s foremost `keepers, with excellent footwork and anticipation. These qualities made him a crucial element in the success of Shane Warne`s leg-spin, not to mention his unrelenting verbal pressure, although he mellowed later in his career. Never afraid to counter-punch, his aggressive batting often saved Australia from perilous situations, and he has scored four Test centuries. Interestingly, Healy is astigmatic in both eyes. He retired in October, 1999 and now commentates for Australian Television.
