Tumshie Smillie is a dynamic and versatile presenter who currently keeps over a million listeners up to date with the latest news and entertainment headlines on Absolute Radio.
Tumshie has covered some of the biggest news events in the UK breaking stories including the London bombings live on-air, reporting from the centre of the G20 riots and from Westminster during the general election. Her varied experience means Tumshie is equally happy chatting with Angelina Jolie on the red carpet, presenting backstage at London Fashion Week or interviewing The Killers at V Festival. Tumshie's skills as a journalist paired with her warm personality allow her to get the most out of a story and her subject.
A stint of work experience at CNN in Hong Kong inspired Tumshie to train as a journalist and she went on to complete an honours degree in Broadcast Journalism at the University of Leeds. Tumshie secured her first job within days of leaving university and cut her teeth reporting on the Soham murder trial, grilling Alistair Campbell and interviewing pop stars.
The following year the bright lights of London beckoned and Tumshie moved to work as a freelance journalist for numerous radio stations including Virgin Radio and the Heart group. While working at Absolute Radio Tumshie has presented from a host of film premieres, music events and award ceremonies as well as working as a voice-over artist. She writes all of her own scripts and can edit her own audio and video material.
Tumshie has won two awards at the New York Festival Radio Awards and has been nominated for an Arquiva Commercial Radio Award.
