Sam presented the Breakfast Show on Kent’s Invicta FM for over 8 years. You need boundless enthusiasm, bags of charm and an endless variety of entertaining ideas to host breakfast for such a long time and Sam has this in spades. During this period she presented from a hot air Balloon, broadcast from the Seacat Ferry, organised listeners’ weddings, hosted The Kent Awards, turned on the Christmas lights and helped raise thousands for local charities. Endearing Sam to her listeners and making her a local celebrity. Global Radio came in and took Invicta under their wing creating Heart Kent as part of their new Heart Network. Sam found herself in demand and Global took her to London to present afternoons on their Gold Radio Network introducing her personality to over 1 million listeners.
Sam’s contract at Gold expired and for the first time in her career she had a break. A single mother, Sam had balanced her work life and motherhood, giving her little time to reflect on what might had been had she pursued her initial career as a fashion model. Aged 18 Sam had a modelling contract with Take 2 that she gave up to raise her son. Aged 44 Sam never imagined the opportunity to model again would arise.
But then the makers of Britain's Next Top Model advertised for ‘fabulous women aged 40 and over to compete to become the latest big thing in modelling’. Sam’s mother urged her to enter and Sam was chosen as one of 6 women for the new television show ‘Kitchen Sink to Catwalk’. Sam competed in a series of challenges, experiencing re-styling, high fashion, pampering and catwalk training, under the guidance of top fashion designer Scott Henshall. It was a rollercoaster of emotional highs and lows for the women and after 6 weeks of confidence busting and boosting Sam emerged as the glamorous victor.
An amazing story as Sam wins herself a modelling contract 25 years after she secured her first modelling job. Proof that age isn’t a barrier and that beauty isn’t only the preserve of the young.
